Tech News and Commentary Dave and the team discuss Google's new foldable Pixel phone, Pixel 7A, and their event, new generation nuclear reactors, and more. Our guest this show: Dr. JC van Velkinburgh, PhD, Former Los Alamos National Lab Biophysicist & Debra LaPrevotte, Former FBI Special Agent and Forensic Scientist - Genesis 2 Project Jane in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania asked: "How come on my e-mail - on the right side when I'm composing an e-mail - there's ads popping up, and how do I get rid of them? Do I have to have these ads appearing? The e-mail company that I deal with, are they making me have these ads? It wasn't always like this when I first got the e-mail, it's just as of late. I don't want all these ads." Jane, the ads were almost certainly placed there by the company providing the account. This is likely a free email account and this is the way they have decided to monetize it. If that's all they're doing they may be more benign than the companies selling your data at least, but hosting email is not free. There are server costs and constant maintenance, not to just keep the server secure and patched up, but also to keep up with all the settings and checks that make emails deliverable so they dont end up in Googles or Microsofts spam filters. That translates to man hours that need to be paid, and servers that need to be kept running. If you want to get rid of ads, you can either install an ad blocker or switch to a different email provider. In particular paid email accounts are much better about privacy and don't have ads and you'll only be looking at a couple of dollars a month if you go with one of those.
