Tech News and Commentary Dave and the team discuss a Twitter outage, Netflix big subscriber drop, Netflix password sharing fees, 99% percent of Earth experiencing daylight at the same time, NASA delaying the launch of its water hunting rover, Wordle the board game, multiple profiles on Facebook, GM's charging network, Google's most efficient routes for EVs and hybrids, , and more. Our guest this hour: Steven Mesnick, General Manager, U.S. Broadband of Viasat, Inc. Nancy in Gilmer, Texas listens on KTBB and is participating with the Free App and asked: "Hello, Dave and Chris. You have helped me more times than I can count, and I find myself in yet another pickle. I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy phone, but I have an iPhone 6s that I keep around just in case. When the iPhone was active, I did use it to watch stuff on my "not smart" TV. Last week I took a fancy to watch the end of a show I wasn't able to stay awake for. Hooked everything up and nothing worked. However, a QR code did appear on the screen and when I scanned it I was redirected to "Drongscreen.apk." I was very uncomfortable with following through on that, so I just figured my phone had aged out and I would need to see about using my android. I researched online, found the proper connector for my android, hooked it all up and I get the same Drongscreen message. Have I overslept. and an app is now necessary for this process? I couldn't find any information on this particular app to determine if it was safe or not. Can you help me get my android to display on my not smart TV?" 22-2022-H1S1.mp3">https://media.blubrry.com/into_tomorrow/content.blubrry.com/into_tomorrow/07-22-2022-H1S1.mp3 Nancy, Drongscreen.apk seems to be a pretty obscure screen mirroring app. We havent heard of it and theres surprisingly little about it on Google, so its pretty hard to recommend it. If youre looking for a way to connect to watch things on your TV, a $29 Chromecast device may be a better option. Its made by Google, so expect it to share more than you think it will, but it will be simple and reliable, and it will be less shady than Drongscreen.apk, the mystery app. If you already bought two devices and you can return them, you may be able to get a Chromecast without investing any extra money. Another advantage is that Chromecasts are wireless devices, so you can have your phone on you, control what is playing on the screen, even use your phone while your show plays and you wont be tethered to the TV. Scott in Bossier City, Louisiana listens on 710 KEEL and asked: "I have an app that I helped develop. I would like to cast my app onto a conventional TV, but I would like it to appear in profile, instead of landscape. Is there any way to do that without a special TV?" 22-2022-H1S5.mp3">https://media.blubrry.com/into_tomorrow/content.blubrry.com/into_tomorrow/07-22-2022-H1S5.mp3 Scott, for the most part it will need to be an option on the TV. Ad monitors are usually a good choice for something like that, but your mileage may vary. If your app is playing recorded videos you may be able to rotate them so that they show up in portrait mode on the TV by tricking Chromecas...
