Tech News and Commentary Dave and the team discuss the future of this year's CES, and more. Our guest this hour: Michael Gills, Director of Marketing & Communications at AtmosFX Don in LaBelle, Florida listens online and asked: "Wondering if you can review some wearable devices that measure your heart and your heartbeat and see if some of those might be recommended for people in my age group - a senior - that might want to check out their heart from time to tim e and see how healthy it may be." 24-2021-H1S1.mp3">https://media.blubrry.com/into_tomorrow/content.blubrry.com/into_tomorrow/12-24-2021-H1S1.mp3 Don, you mentioned your heart and heartbeat, if you want more than just your heart rate you basically have 2 FDA approved options: the Apple Watch and the Samsung Watch. Both are FDA approved, both can do a basic EKG, both will display it on compatible paired devices, both make it a point to say that they dont detect heart attacks. The EKG will likely mean fairly little to you but if you know you have an issue, then it can give you something to immediately forward to your doctor. If youre just interested in your heart rate, then your options are pretty much limitless. You can look at established devices from a Fitbit (keep in mind theyve had quality issues through the years, especially around their bands), to just about any WearOS smartwatch, to serious exercise watches from brands like Garmin and Polar. True exercise watches were tracking heart rate before anyone else and generally have reliable sensors, but they can be bulky as they often have larger screens to make them more easily visible during exercise. In terms of pricing youre looking at anything from under $50 for totally generic, no-brand fitness trackers, to prices in the thousands for serious exercise watches and high end smartwatches like the Apple and Samsung watches that I first mentioned.
