From tiktok posts to pin locations, our kids every action is being monitored, recorded and available for the world to see. We employ apps to check their text messages and create fake social media accounts to see what they are doing and how they are doing it- our kids no longer have any privacy. For some of us, who are unwilling to give in to the social pressures of allowing our children to navigate these systems too early, we then have to deal with the impact of exclusion for our children in the name of "protecting them." It's a complicated issue and one that feels like "no man's land" even still. We are parenting as AI takes over, and TikTok rules the world- but how do we keep our children safe and allow them to maintain some autonomy? It's tough, admits author Devorah Heitner, PhD, but she does have some really good suggestions, based on the research from both of her books, Growing Up in Public and Screenwise.Jess and Jess have a million questions for Devorah, so many, that she has been invited back for a second interview! But this one is definitely informative and food for thought.
