“Shuttlepod One” 20th-anniversary reflections.

While on a mission to survey an asteroid field, Trip and Malcolm come across some debris from Enterprise, part of a launch bay door that was damaged during a rescue mission. Assuming that the Enterprise has been destroyed and that they are now stranded in deep space, the two begin working on plan to get to safety but begin to spiral into despair and doubt as air runs low. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our 20th-anniversary retrospective that takes you through all of Star Trek: Enterprise, one episode at a time. In this installment, we explore “Shuttlepod One” and how great things happen when writers put two characters on screen and let them talk at length. We also discuss how a limited budget can drive creativity, why fans love learning more about characters (and its importance to good storytelling), and what we learn when circumstances peel away the layers of Malcolm Reed.
