For a decade Vicky Beeching worked as a Christian recording artist. She began writing in her early teens and by her early thirties she was well known in Christian music in the UK and America. Her songs are used by congregations across the world and translated in to numerous languages. But, through her teens and into adult life she endured an internal battle. Vicky was gay and Christian and this caused great personal tension, and, as she describes it, a ‘lifetime of shame and fear’. As a Christian musician she played to audiences and represented churches on stage that were opposed to same sex relationships. She knew that if she revealed her true self, she stood to lose her career, friends and faith community. However, at the age of thirty-five, faced with a major health scare she made the decision to ‘come out’. Undivided – Coming out, becoming whole and living free from shame’ is her memoir of that journey. Vicky no longer writes music or performs. She is a campaigner for inclusion and equality and a vocal advocate for mental health awareness.
