The assumptions that military service helps candidates attract votes—while lacking it harms a candidate’s chances—is as old as the Republic.  Professor Jeremy Teigen discusses veteran status and politics with host Jim Fausone.  This Ramapo College professor is the leading expert on this subject and finds veteran status does not give a candidate an advantage in general elections. He discusses the types of conflict and the types of service that impact voters in primary elections and seem to influence political parties.  He talks about the 2018 election and the upcoming 2020 election cycle.
