The last remaining Liberal government in Australia will be dissolved, with Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff confirming he'll call a state election today, more than a year earlier than planned.

He says he's made the decision after failed negotiations with two rogue crossbenchers. Lara Alexander, Independent MP for the seat of Bass says the Premier has "abandoned the ship, and taken the only life-boat."
