In Venezuela, thousands of civilians have taken to the streets in protest - after Nicolas Maduro claimed victory in the Presidential elections, in a result that is being disputed by international observers.

The government-controlled election authority announced Maduro had won with 51 per cent of the vote but many - including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken - say the election results aren't valid or transparent.
