Tens of thousands of dock workers launched a strike at ports along the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico in the United States this week.

The strike is expected to wreak havoc on global supply chains and cost hundreds of millions of dollars a day in a major threat to the US economy - and it could also have significant flow-on effects in Australia.
