SAKAI’ - #UFCAPEX — SEPT. 5th., 2020 at: http://go.web.plus.espn.com/c/482924/566982/9070?sharedid=BloodyElbow This Saturday’s, September 5th., Fight Night event, broadcast from the APEX Fight Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, showcased a heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Augusto Sakai — The Demolition Man pulled out a huge stoppage win when the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion ended his surging contender via a brutal fifth-round TKO. Our co-main event featured a long-awaited bout between Ovince St. Preux and Alonzo Menifield. OSP proved he still has a lot left in him when the former UFC light heavyweight title challenger finished Alonzo Menifield via an impressive third-round knockout with just one perfect punch. Let’s run down the early portion of the event: We ended up starting the night with a couple of decisions and then Brian “Boom” Kelleher delivered the first finish of a seven-fight card, as the featherweight veteran ended Octagon newcomer Ray Rodriguez via first-round sub — which wasn’t a massive surprise, considering Rodriguez just accepted the fight today. We followed that up with Andre Muniz keeping up his winning ways, as the middleweight prospect finished veteran fighter Bartosz Fabinski via first-round sub. A true highlight of the night came when Michel Pereira and Zelim Imadaev faced off in a welterweight bout. Pereira put on a show with a stellar performance, kicking his foe around the cage, finishing him off with a rear naked choke in round three. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Kelleher, Muniz, Pereira, and OSP, and FOTN honors went to no one tonight. Overall, the now dwindled down seven-bout card saw two finishes in Round 1, three submissions in a row, had a total of two KO/TKOs - in the main and co-main events, and finished up with two decisions... what a short but fun night of fights we have to discuss with you!
