Mookie Alexander & Dayne Fox are here to breakdown the card, with takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. Sign up for ESPN+ and watch UFC FIGHT ISLAND 4: ‘HOLM VS. ALDANA’ - #FIGHTISLAND — Oct. 3rd., 2020 at: http://go.web.plus.espn.com/c/482924/566982/9070?sharedid=BloodyElbow Overall, this eleven-bout card saw one swift finish in Round 1, one submission, a total of three KO/TKOs (including both Title Fights), and seven decisions, including one Split Draw. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Germaine De Randamie, Kyler Phillips, Duško Todorović, and Luigi Vendramini; and FOTN honors went to... no one this time around. Wow, what a night of fights we have to discuss with you! So, as we all know, tonight’s card showcased a pick’em fight for the main event. In that featured bout, we had the former champion, Holly Holm, mixing it up with UFC’s sixth ranked, Irene Aldana, with the outcome affecting the title shot slot against Amanda Nunes. Our former champion: Holly ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ Holm, entered the octagon with a 13-5 record, having defeated Raquel Pennington at UFC 246 back in January of this year, via Unanimous Decision. The 38-year old Holm, fighting out of Albuquerque, NM, was pitted up against the longshot: Irene ‘Robles’ Aldana... Our opponent, holding a 12-5 fight record, on a two-fight win streak, entered the octagon the underdog. The 32-year old Guadalajaran combatant had a 1” height advantage, with a negligible 1/2” reach deficit going against her efforts to defeat Holm tonight. But she was not victorious, Holm did not disappoint, with superior boxing and another W on her record. Also on the card, a co-main event that had no business being the co-main event, so let’s just move on to Germaine ‘The Iron Lady’ de Randamie vs. Julianna ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ Peña. Julianna entered the octagon last having fought in July of 2019, when she defeated Nicco Montaño at UFC on ESPN+ 13, via Unanimous Decision. The Vixen came to this bout carrying a 8-3 record at 31 years of age, taking on the favorite - #1 Ranked Current Best Female Bantamweight, de Randamie, with her 9-4 record at 36 years of age. De Randamie swarmed The Vixen and ended up earning her first submission victory. As if that’s not enough women’s MMA action in one night, we also had a women’s flyweight tilt between Loma Lookboonmee and Jinh Yu Frey, which went the distance, ending in the hands of the judges scorecards - which was all preceded by a surprisingly decent undercard.
