An Indigenous truth-telling commission in Victoria has taken evidence from the descendants of early colonial settlers. That sheds new light on key events that had a devastating impact on the state's First Peoples.

The hearing in Melbourne has been looking at events including early massacres of indigenous people in the 1830s and 40s, and the passage of the so-called "Half Caste" Act, which played a role in the Stolen Generations.
