These Bond movies are so much fun to review, and Timothy Dalton’s The Living Daylights & License To Kill might have been the funnest. It’s part 4 of The James Bond Character, where we talk through all the cars, gadgets, thrills, kills, and billing invoices from the 007 films. TIMOTHY DALTON’S JAMES BOND CHARACTER STUDY: NONSPOILER SECTION Getting Into Character - 1:54 (Dalton - The MOST British Bond) His Performance As Bond Overall - 9:28 (Dalton’s Short-Ranged Bond Filmography and Historical Impact On the Character) SPOILER WARNING - 17:04 SPOILER-FILLED SECTION The Spy Who’s Not Me - 18:15 (Why We Want To, But Never Could Be, This James Bond) Live and Let Dad Joke - 27:49 (This Bond’s Best [Worst?] One Liners) Dr. Please God No - 33:50 (Problematic Interactions w/ Women Through 2020 Eyes) Always Say Never Again - 38:19 (Moral Issues Through 2020 Eyes) Q Only Lives Once - 46:23 (The Cars, Gadgets, and Tech of Moore Bond) They’re Why Tomorrow Never Dies - 51:32 (The Struggles of These Bond Baddies) Goldfingers - 54:43 (We Fix The Bond Baddies) License To Bill - 57:13 (Totaling Up Bond’s Civic Damage) Your Homework/PLEASE LEAVE US 5*’S - 1:05:03 What’s Next From MMO/Words of Wisdom - 1:05:53 Doing The James Bond Character Study on a monthly basis was ingenious, if I do say so myself. It gives us time to take it all in and relish every detail from these brilliant, patently absurd films, and we had a ridiculous amount of good fun with the Timothy Dalton entries from the late 1980’s. From the music to the gizmos, from the best scenes to the worst - we break down The Living Daylights and License To Kill with dueling movie reviews in a bunch of banter filled segments. As always, you get a non-spoiler section first, though this might be one of the few times we should insist you listen to the spoiler section regardless of whether or not you’ve seen both films. Still, we begin with our usual Getting Into Character non-spoiler segment to give you the bio and backstory about how Timothy Dalton learned to wear the tuxedo. We then review his performance & what the films meant for the industry in Historical Significance before your spoiler warning. Then in spoilers, we have a hard time not laughing once we start. Maybe it’s quarantine cabin fever. Maybe these films are just awesomely terrible. But we had an absolute blast reviewing these two movies in this episode, and you need to hear this. It’s wonderful nonsense. The Spy Who’s Not Me discusses the fantasy elements, Live And Let Dad Joker recaps all the best one liners, Dr. Please Oh God No and Always Say Never Again slams some of the worst scenes, Q Only Lives Once highlights the best gadgets, cars, and technology, and then in License To Bill, we tally up all of the damages to person & property that MI6 should have to reimburse.
