Above Average director Tim Bierbaum talks about his scrappy, high-rep approach to creating short-form digital comedy. Tim started putting sketch videos online around 2005, in the early days of YouTube, and was not afraid of a rough final product, where the ‘soundtrack’ would sometimes just come from a tape recorder held next to the camera mic during takes. Since then, despite working on higher budget material, Tim’s pace has not slowed: he has put out around 60 videos per year since 2014. He and Nathan discuss his career trajectory as well as things he’s learned along the way, including becoming a more flexible and trusting collaborator. This week’s episode is in partnership with Bronx Brewery, the official house beer of the UCB Comedy Podcast Network.
