The Transport Workers Union has slammed a move by rideshare company Uber to lower fares just weeks before new legislation to support gig economy workers come into affect. 

The Closing the Loop legislation will allow the Fair Work Commission to set minimum standards for gig economy workers who will be considered "employee-like" if they meet certain criteria.

The union says drivers will take home less pay when the fares are reduced by roughly 5%
