In the first half, we learn of Peter Bloch, who was once a prosperous inn-keeper and master cook, but is now a poor man. He hears of a mysterious dark spirit, The Treasure Seeker of the Mountain, and directions on how to find an amazing treasure trove of hidden wealth. Although he has an unhappy marriage with the Dame Ilse, Peter also has a sweet daughter named Lucia.
