So naturally, we break into many conversations based on all our research & based on our comprehensive study of Quentin’s work. But we also come at this episode from the angle of our role as Oscar pundits. Will this movie be the front runner we think it might be? Or will it be a disappointment? Is it more Inglourious Basterds or Jackie Brown, more Hateful Eight or Pulp Fiction in terms of its eventual nominations? There’s some serious discussion and plenty of speculation for you to get your movie talk fix before you head into the theater. The format was simple. We begin with a look at the cast & crew, and we enjoy talking through some of the casting without clicking that full IMDB page so as to avoid the spoiler cameos. Then we break down some of the early critical reception numbers and box office projections. Please note: we recorded this episode on Tuesday and base our discussion on those numbers. Then we have a blast posing 5 questions apiece that we think & hope & need Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to answer. Some are serious questions, where we talk about the pros & cons of Tarantino cinema leading up to this film. But some are fan questions, where we reveal our hopes & dreams for the work, and then we can’t help but speculate about the future of Tarantino’s career coming out of this 9th film. Our reviews of Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight have been recorded, and we’ll release them tomorrow and Tuesday respectively.
