Submit ReviewMechanical Engineer | Cyclist | Sports Scientist | Author In this 2 part special episode with Raman, we discussed the impact of Hyderabad Bicycling Club on Raman’s cycling, Sports as a career, getting bored easily and what to do about it, the importance of complexity in a passion or pursuit, why cyclists shave their legs and so much more! Tune in to find out more. In part 1 of this episode we spoke about Raman's upbringing in Hyderabad, the winding career path he took, why he's reading Range from David Epstein, his favorite podcasts and the reason he stopped playing football. Raman Garimella is an engineer, cyclist, and a sports scientist, in that order. He started endurance cycling at the age of 22. In 2010, Raman joined a local cycling club in Hyderabad with whom he did countless weekend miles. Soon after, he left his job to give full time professional cycling a shot. His mainstay initially was ultra endurance riding, regularly cranking out 100-600k rides. At the time, he was the second youngest Super Randonneur. After the brevets chapter, he moved on to road racing. Raman regularly finished on the podium in races in (Telangana +) Andhra Pradesh. His best result at the Road Cycling National Championship was 12th. The year after, while his racing career came to a close, he moved to Germany to study sports science. It was perhaps the first time he enjoyed going to class. Raman currently works in Belgium as a PhD researcher in sports science - specifically cycling aerodynamics.
