Carlos Correa was obviously a huge add for the San Francsico Giants, but he alone wouldn't have been enough. Similarly, the Giants' depth moves—adding Mitch Haniger, Sean Manaea, and Ross Stripling and re-signing Joc Pederson—wouldn't have been enough, either. But all of the moves together add up to a major SF Giants offseason. There's still work to do, to be sure, but it's a pretty darn good start.

All of the Giants' moves are discussed in detail. Mitch Haniger gives the Giants a solid everday outfielder with upside. When he's been healthy, Haniger has been out of the better outfielders in the league. He's a local kid who grew up a Giants fan, and he has a chance to be a nice player for the Giants for at least the next two seasons (Haniger can opt into a third season). Joc Pederson was the Giants' best hitter in 2022, so bringing him back is a clear win. The Giants might have "overpaid" a bit on the one-year contract, but the team doesn't seem to mind doing so on one-year deals. There's very little downside: if he performs poorly, the deal is over after one year. If he thrives, then he's worth the contract.

In the starting rotation, things are a bit more interesting. The Giants just lost Carlos Rodón to the New York Yankees, but by signing Manaea and Stripling they have among the deepest rotations in the majors. Logan Webb, Alex Cobb, Alex Wood, Anthony DeSclafani, Stripling, Manaea, Junis, and Kyle Harrison waiting in the wings is about as deep as it gets. But they certainly lost some upside with the departure of Rodón.

And obviously the big fish was Carlos Correa, whom Ben and Sully agree is a Hall of Fame-level player. Correa gives the Giants exactly what they need: a face of the franchise and star in his prime. He also adds a lot of fuel to the Giants-Dodgers rivalry, as Correa was part of the 2017 Astros team that cheated their way to a World Series title over Los Angeles.
