In 1997, James was published for the first time. His letter in Simpsons Comics, which detailed why Homer was his favourite character on The Simpsons, was the first of many things James would write for print; it was the first step on a journey he has spent his life walking. Along the way the comic was lost, thrown out in a house clean when James was a child. For years, he has been haunted by the memory of the lost comic, the proof he had of that one early moment of pride and success. In 2017, James started Pods in the Key of Springfield, hoping to carve out a new Simpsons-related legacy, but still the comic loomed over him. He became sad, isolated, weird. In a very special Pods in the Key of Springfield, Nick, sick of James’ whining, proposes that the two seek out the issue and set James’ tormented mind at ease. But to find it, they realise, they’ll need the help of one of the Internet’s premiere investigators – Alex Goldman, of Reply All fame. Can a soul be set at ease after twenty years of torment? Can James and Nick catch the attention of their favourite podcaster? Is there such a thing as ethical consumption under capitalism? Join us for answers to these, and maybe a few other questions too.
