We review the new Birds of Prey trailer up top before we dive into Suicide Squad & Jared Leto’s Joker. This is our final re-watch episode in the Joker Character Study before the big event of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker! What is This Episode/Series? - 1:31 Movie Background - 2:51 REVIEWING THE NEW BIRDS OF PREY TRAILER - 5:58 NONSPOILER JOKER ANALYSIS: Getting Into Character - 10:54 Historical Significance - 16:31 SPOILER WARNING - 25:24 SPOILER JOKER ANALYSIS: Most Memorable Quote/Action - 26:17 Secret Spice/What Made It Work - 30:05 How Evil Was the Evil Deed? - 34:09 On a Scale of 1 - Joker… - 45:41 Your Homework/PLEASE LEAVE US 5*’S - 48:48 What’s Next From MMO/Words of Wisdom - 49:32 This has been quite the study thus far. In episode 1, we outlined the history & timeline of the Joker character from his birth in the 1940 comics with profiles of ALL of the actors to play, voice, or put on the face paint. Ep 2 covered Cesar Romero’s performance in 1966’s Batman: The Moive, and then we had another fun history episode with our It Chapter Two crossover show, fantasizing over the hypothetical battle between Pennywise & the Joker, and discussing the history of evil clowns in entertainment & real life. Ep 4 focused on Jack Nicholson’s performance in 1989’s Batman, ep 5 reviewed Mark Hamill’s voice-acting career, highlighting 3 of our favorite episodes of Batman: The Animated Series, and ep 6 celebrated Heath Ledger’s Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. So in ep 6, we discuss all 13 minutes of Jared Leto’s rendition of the clown prince of crime in 2016’s Suicide Squad. We discuss some specs on that movie in the intro, along with a quick review of the Birds of Prey trailer and what the DCEU is actually doing with their um, U. Then we get into all of your favorite Joker Character Study segments. We discuss how Jared Leto got into character by going behind the scenes, and then discuss the historical significance of both the performance and the film to finish our non-spoiler section. We give you a spoiler warning, and then we dive into the plot, starting with a segment on the Most Memorable Quotes or Actions to talk about the best scenes. We build on that with a segment called Secret Spice or What Made It Work, to highlight how Leto pulled off this version of the Joker. Then we dive into How Evil Were His Deeds to break down the weird antagonism of the film & how Jared Leto’s Joker factored into the plot. Finally, we rank Jared Leto on a scale of 1 to Joker. It’s a rousing discussion with many highs & lows, and we hope all of these episodes in The Joker Character Study get you ready for the new movie and that they live on long after Joaquin Phoenix wears the face paint on movie screens across the globe. Of course, we’ll have an OSP / Joker Character Study installment for the Todd Phillips’ movie this weekend.
