In the years between 1820 and 1890, medical schools in England, France, and the US were growing by leaps and bounds, and human bodies were needed for dissection. Competition among med schools was intense, and soon bodies began disappearing from local graveyards, followed by murders of innocents for hire to shady med school professors and operators.   This story from Robert Louis Stevenson tells of two medical school assistants in England who  turned to crime for a chance at the good life.
