The military coup in Myanmar that ousted Aung San Suu Kyi a few years ago remains a work in progress. The army has never controlled the whole country, as local militia fight to seize territory from the regime. The most fierce of these little wars at the moment is being fought by the Arakan Army in the coastal Rakhine State. It's primarily Buddhist in the south and Rohingya Muslim in the north, where it borders Bangladesh.

Guest:

  • Thomas Kean - consultant on Myanmar and Bangladesh at the International Crisis Group. He’s also edited Myanmar newspapers since 2008.
