On the 1st of June, 2019, the UFC put on their UFC Fight Night 153/UFC on ESPN+ 11 event brought to us all the way from Stockholm, Sweden, meaning here in the US we got to have an early day of fights, leaving our Saturday evening free. The main attraction featured a Light Heavyweight Bout between former title challengers, Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith, and the co-main event is now set to be Jimi Manuwa vs Aleksandar Rakic after Ilir Latifi was pulled from his scheduled bout against Volkan Oezdemir. Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson approached this Light Heavyweight Bout with an 18-5-0 record, having won lost his last fight, which was against none-other-than Jon Jones, who defeated Gustafsson in the main event via Ground & Pound at UFC 232, last December. Tapology.com had him ranked as the #2 Current Best Light Heavyweight Fighter prior to today’s event. Meanwhile, his opponent Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith, came into this battle with a longer 31-14-0 professional record, also having lost his last bout thanks to Jon Jones, who defeated Lionheart in the main event at UFC 235 via Unanimous Decision. Smith was listed via Tapology.com as #4 Current Best Light Heavyweight, a couple notches below Gustafsson heading into this event.
