After nineteen years and twelve movies, the 20th Century Fox produced X-Men film series comes to an end with X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
After X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) erased the events of the original trilogy X-Men (2000), X-Men 2 (2003), and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) from the series’ timeline, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, written and directed by Simon Kinberg, takes another attempt at adapting Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s “The Dark Phoenix Saga”.
In 1992 mutant-kind are generally accepted and the X-Men are widely celebrated as “superheroes”. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The X-Men must face their most devastating enemy yet – one of their own.
