James Gunn brings us the latest superhero flick, but this time it’s violent, it’s scary, and takes a different spin the whole “Superman” concept. You know how it goes – a young alien boy lands on Earth, realises he has superpowers, then uses them to terrorise the surrounding town. This is Brightburn. Directed by David Yarovesky, Brightburn introduces Tori and Kyle Breyer (Elizabeth Banks and David Denman), who live a quiet life on their farm in Brightburn, Kansan, trying to have a child – struggling due to infertility issues. One night a spaceship falls from the sky near their farm with a baby boy inside. Deciding to adopt the child as their own, the Breyers name him Brandon. Twelve years later, Brandon (Jackson A Dunn) discovers that he has superhuman strength, super speed, heat vision, and he can fly. Brandon grows more disobedient and disrespectful towards his parents, and strange and violent occurrences begin happening to people connected to Brandon, leading the Breyers to view their adopted son as something to be feared.
