The game has evolved! Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is the standalone sequel to the 1995 movie Jumanji, directed by Jake Kasdan and once again an adaptation of the 1981 children’s book Jumanji by Chris Van Allsburg. Opening in 1996, the Jumanji board game is once again found, only to this time magically evolve into a video game cartridge – sucking teenager Alex Vreeke into the game. Twenty years later four high school kids discover an old video game console and the Jumanji game, and are drawn into the game’s Jungle setting, where they literally become adult avatars. They must survive Jumanji to beat it. To beat Jumanji and return to the real world, they must return a jewel to an enormous jaguar stature and call out “Jumanji”, and keep it out of the hands of the big-game hunter, Van Pelt. We’ve got Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas as the video game avatars, with Bobby Cannavale as Van Pelt. Was this a travesty of a movie? Is this a worthy sequel to Jumanji? Would we dare watch it again? Check out our review to find out!
