Submit ReviewNXT Takeover: Chicago II (that’s a mouthful) takes place Saturday, June 15th. The event will more than likely be better than Money in The Bank, but that’s not saying much.
One year ago at this same event, Tommaso Ciampa turned on Johnny Gargano after they lost a tag team ladder match to the Authors of Pain. One year later, the feud will potential come to its rightful conclusion after a Chicago Street Fight. That match type has some significance because of the location, but it feels weird to have this match type instead of a more extreme match type because their unsanctioned match at Takeover: New Orleans was basically just a street fight. In any regard, this will be one of the best matches of the weekend.
Aleister Black will defend the title he won at Takeover: New Orleans against Lars Sullivan. This will be a big test for Lars Sullivan. You’ve got to wonder if Aleister will have a strong title defense against a strong challenger or lose the title fairly quickly and move onto the main roster.
Shayna Baszler choked out Ember Moon at Takeover: New Orleans to become the NXT Women’s Champion. She defended her title by submitting Dakota Kai on a recent episode of NXT. After the match, Nikki Cross attacked Shayna to set-up a feud and this match. It feels kind of weird to have Nikki in this match because she should be on the main roster with a yet-to-debut Sanity, but WWE feels like there are not enough women in NXT currently. Wouldn’t be surprised if Nikki was used to get Shayna over as a monster heel of the women’s division.
Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly will defend against Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan in what is sure to be a hard-hitting affair. Big fan of the Burch/Lorcan tandem, but it feels like Tyler Bate and Trent Seven should be in this role given the fact that The Undisputed Era has been going after their British Strong Style stablemate and UK Champ Pete Dunne.
Only four words are needed to describe this match. Match. Of. The. Weekend.
