There are two survival stories that show exactly what we can control in our lives...
This week's Surrounded by Idiots Radio Podcast episode is about how much control we can really have in our lives. https://soundcloud.com/surrounded-by-idiots-radio-podcast/story-about-a-roman-slave-a There are two survival stories that show exactly what we can control in our lives... ...and... ...what we cannot control. The first story is of a young Roman slave with a shattered leg, about to die... ...and the mindset that gave him the strength to survive. That boy eventually became the great Stoic Philosopher, Epictetus. The other story is about a Jewish psychiatrist that was enslaved in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. And, during his horrific internment, he found a way to survive by realizing the ultimate control he had in his life. That prisoner was Viktor Frankl, and that terrible experience resulted in his masterful life philosophy known as Logotherapy. Both stories, along with both of the philosophies they describe, are the basis of my life and my work. They are also two of the most powerful tools you can use to understand what you can control in life... ...and what you can't.
