TODAY: Stephanie Allain, American producer with a penchant for independent films. Allain, a New Orleans native, moved to Los Angeles and started her career in film in 1985, as a reader for Creative Artists Agency, before moving up the line to being one of 12 staff readers at Columbia Pictures. As a staff reader, Allain personally pitched several famous projects to studio execs, launching the careers of several young filmmakers who would go on to have legendary careers, such as John Singleton and Robert Rodriguez. She would go on to produce and executive produce several acclaimed films, with her most recent films being Black Snake Moan (2006), Beyond the Lights (2014), and Juanita (2019).
