Greetings Shooting The Breeze Sailing Podcast (STBSP) listeners! This is Episode 150, a Huge Milestone for yours truly. I never thought I’d make it to a hundred episodes, much less 150.

Today we will have a few interviews that I did while visiting and enjoying the Sultana Downrigging and Bluegrass Festival in Chestertown Maryland back in Late October. We chat with Aaron and Capt. Andrew from the Echo Hill Outdoor School as well as Rosemary from the Chesapeake Heartland Organization.

The Echo Hill Outdoor School operate a SkipJack and a BuyBoat, both of which have been restored and are used in their many programs throughout the year, and are docked in Chestertown.

The Chesapeake Heartland Organization had a trailer set up near the docks behind the Starr Center and were featuring historical displays about African American history in the area via documents and photographs digitized during an ongoing project to preserve the history of the area.

We are also featuring some music in this celebratory episode. Some of it is Copywrighted, the Real Mckenzies did the Mainland bump earlier, and Bob Dylan wrote two songs later in the show. I don’t want to infringe on the owners rights, but these performances of the music is very special to me and I hope you don’t sue me……….. Would loving the performances be criticism and fair use?

The first song we play is called “Jenny Norman” written by Joe DeFilippo and performed by the R.J. Phillips Band out of Baltimore. It is a song about Eastern Shore Boatbuilder Jim Richardson, namesake of the Maritime Museum in Cambridge, MD and the Bugeye Boat he built.

After the interviews, we skip back in time to Episode 44 and a song performed by Tom Wells, a big fan of Good Old Boat Magazine. The song is called something along the lines of “Chesapeake Bay Regatta Song” where Plastic Fantastic Good Old Boats gather for a race on the Bay.

We then play an acapella version of “The Mermaid Song” as performed by the Ogham Stones back in 2014, which originally aired on my Hootenanny Down The Hallway Music Podcast which can be found on this website. I thought I had used this song on the Sailing Podcast as well at some point, but haven’t bothered to dig through and find out where.

Next up is one of my favorite recordings that I have done in my podcasting history, it is the “Encore” of a David Ford Show at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia which features a version of Bob Dylan’s “Man in Me” with accompaniment by Jarrod Dickenson, and Fords own song called “Philadelphia Boy” which was written to document a very strange moment at a Ford concert I attended back in 2010 on that very same stage.

And last but not least is a recording I did very early on, and also one of my favorite moments, which is Hances Point YC member and good sailing friend Robert Williams playing a version of Dylans “I’ll be your Baby Tonight” back in fall of 2013. I think I attached this onto the end of the 100th episode, but for you listeners that haven’t gone back too far into the catalog, it represents a lot of what my early inspiration for this podcast was, which is to get moments like those that happen in and around the Sailing community and Hances Point on the public record.

Anyway, I appreciate all of the support you all have given me over the 8 years I’ve been at this, I hope I’ve somehow made your lives better through doing it, as I know my life is much more interesting having done it.
