Greetings Podcast Fans! This episode we sit and chat with new to the YouTube Sailing Channel scene, Sailing Panda! Darren and Amanda went from zero to cruising when they bought an Amel Sharki 39 foot sailboat in Florida and moved aboard back in 2019. They took a three week quick cruise to the Bahamas, filmed it, and started a YouTube Channel. They had never sailed before buying the boat, became quick studies of all sorts of Sailing Media, including this podcast, then shortly thereafter set off for the Bahama’s. They spent the next year getting set up to throw off the dock lines and head out for an indefinite cruise, heading towards the South Pacific. Enter Covid-19, and they were stranded back in the Bahamas. Plans changed, they headed to Puerto Rico, spend a month holed up there, got a friend to crew up, and headed up to Maine. After spending the summer there, they decided to just go for it, and headed off to Greenland, eventually ending up in Belfast, where we spoke with them back in October. We talk about some of the other inspiring Sailing media, including Beau and Brandy, Drake Paragon, and of course, S/V Delos. The Amel Sharki, even being 20 years older, has many familiar design elements as the Super Maramu 2000, we all recognize with Delos. The YouTube Channel now has 20 plus full episodes, and a handful of short videos and teasers. It was a fun conversation, they are fun, awesome people (I say Awesome like 20 times) and I’m so glad they reached out!
