Greetings Shooting The Breeze Sailing Podcast (STBSP) fans! This time around we speak to “John Sparrow,” our resident Chesapeake Bay Sailor/Broker/Social Media Sailing guy. I’ve wanted to chat with him for a long time, after seeing his YouTube videos (Hold Fast!), Facebook Sailing group posts, and meeting in real life at the Annapolis Sailboat Show many years ago. Mainly I wanted to get on the record the Life and Times of Cliff Kyle, Facebook sailing buddy of many of us, but Mr. Sparrow had many great interactions with the fellow, helping him out many times, as many of us did virtually, as well as interviewing him and sailing with him. We also talk about his time in the Bay the second time around when I almost met him in person as he hung around the Middle River area, spending time with our friend Michael Pittinger, AKA, S/V Ariosa. Cliff was a disabled veteran, losing a leg in a traffic accident as a truck driver, and he ended up living aboard a boat in the Carolina’s, where Mr. Sparrow met him. He eventually got his own boats, and made many trips down the Atlantic coast, solo most of the time. We also talk a bit about Vin and Amy of Sailing Nervous, and some of the adventures he and Lizzy Swan had just as Covid-19 hit the world.
