The 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils football team has a lot of new faces on offense, defense, and special teams thanks to the NCAA Transfer Portal and some key freshmen, as well. Obviously, quarterback Jaden Rashada commands the majority of the attention and rightfully so, but in the team's first game against Southern Utah, there were several players who stood out in significant ways that should get Sun Devils fans excited. Offensively, the team had a two-headed monster in the backfield with running backs Cameron Skattebo and DeCarlos Brooks who combined for 186 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Xavier Guillory also wasted no time establishing himself with five receptions for 73-yards including a 47-yard touchdown grab. Defensively, there were plenty of guys making plays but none more so than linebacker Tate Romney, who tied for the team lead in tackles with eight, and cornerback Dee Ford, who was making plays in coverage all night. When it was all said and done, these guys and several others made critical contributions for the Sun Devils in their tight win over Southern Utah.
