Coronavirus outbreaks nationwide will impact voting in November, leading voting by mail to become more popular as an option that enables voters to stay safe. Yet, many Republicans are battling vote by mail initiatives, and some believe plans are afoot by the Trump administration to use the U.S. Postal Service to allegedly influence the collection of mail-in ballots. Voting rights activist and former Democratic candidate for Georgia governor Stacey Abrams joins Joy Reid to discuss, saying that in her view, the GOP is fighting vote by mail because, “Republicans are deeply afraid that they will be held accountable for their mismanagement.” NEXT: Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) faces allegations that he engaged in insider trading using his former position as chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee to glean knowledge about the coronavirus pandemic to allegedly trade stocks before the market crash. Could Burr face reprisals from Donald Trump due to the Senate Intelligence Committee agreeing with U.S. intelligence agencies that Russia influenced the 2016 election--a finding the president consistently attempts to refute? MSNBC legal analyst Glenn Kirshner joins Joy Reid to discuss. THEN: Coronavirus frontline nurses lack enough protective gear, needed psychological support, adequate sick leave, and more, healthcare professionals tell Joy Reid. Lorna M. Johnson, nurse midwife and healthcare executive, urges those who want to help our nurses to search with her name on Change.org and sign the petition urging legislators to address these critical needs in the battle against COVID-19. AND: Donald Trump and Republican leadership continue to fixate on and blame former President Barack Obama amid the coronavirus pandemic. That did not prevent Obama from criticizing the Trump administration’s COVID-19 response in a recent, televised commencement address. PLUS: Coronavirus protective gear is being given to the New York City homeless population by Backpacks For The Street, a non-profit that has distributed 2,000 backpacks with wipes, masks, and hand sanitizer since the beginning of the pandemic. Joy Reid is joined by Backpacks For The Street founders Jeffrey Newman and Jayson Conner on how you can help them serve some of the most vulnerable people in America. FINALLY: Donald Trump has fired four inspectors general in six weeks sparking outrage, yet few consequences so far. MSNBC analyst Elise Jordan joins Joy Reid to discuss. All this and much more in this Sunday edition of AM Joy on MSNBC.
