Here's another movie that you may not know is based on a comic book series, nor would consider it to be a superhero movie, but here we are. 1994 was Jim Carrey's year, with starring roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Dumb and Dumber, and this movie - The Mask. Directed by Charles Russell, The Mask is loosely based upon the comic series of the same name published by Dark Horse Comics. That Film Stew's Luke and Jason revisited this 90s hit, which, although a lot more family friendly than the comics, is not a kids movie. The Tex Avery cartoons come to life through Jim Carrey's performance as the green-faced Mask character. Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey), an insecure bank clerk working at the local Edge City bank, finds a magical mask that transforms him into a mischievous zoot-suited gangster who is able to cartoonishly alter himself and his surroundings at will. As The Mask, Stanley catches the eye of local nightclub singer Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz in her film debut) and angers junior crime lord Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene).
