The family of a 16-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed Sydney bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel say they're sorry for the actions of their son, and hadn't seen signs of radicalisation or brainwashing.

The stabbing provoked fears of 'tit-for-tat' violence, as community leaders urge calm. Jamal Rifi is a doctor in Sydney's West, he's in touch with the family of the boy accused of the stabbing.
