There's been a small increase in the amount of coral cover across all three regions of the Great Barrier Reef, but experts say it doesn't paint the full picture of the reef's health.

The Australian Institute of Marine Science says most of the underwater surveys contributing to their report were done before the mass bleaching event earlier this year.
