It wasn't without some controversy, but the San Francisco Giants casually collected their 10th straight win on Wednesday against the Padres. The Giants' winning streak of 10 games is their longest since 2004. The SF Giants' streak began with the team sitting at 32-32, but now they're 10 games over .500 and their playoff odds are skyrocketing. They have a legitimate shot at the NL West, and they're now the No. 1 Wild Card team.

The controversy involved the Home Plate Collision rule, and it was actually not all that controversial. Padres catcher Gary Sánchez blocked Giants baserunner Blake Sabol's path to the plate before he was in possession of the baseball. Case closed—that's a violation of the rule. Like it or not, the rule is the rule, and the Giants took advantage. Sabol was ruled safe, and the Giants went on to score two additional runs in the inning. So the play had a huge impact on the game, which ended with a final score of 4-2.

Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski was banged up in the process. He injured his left hamstring in that inning that was extended and had to leave the game. An MRI revealed only inflammation, which is a best case scenario. Yaz is hopeful to avoid the injured list, so he's in a similar kind of purgatory as SF Giants first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr., who's nursing a side injury but hasn't been placed on the IL. Those two are obviously very key players for the Giants and they can't afford to lose them. Bryce Johnson was recalled prior to today's game, and Sean Hjelle was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.
