Submit ReviewSan Francisco Giants have endured tremendous pain and suffering in recent days. They lost out on Carlos Correa at the very last minute after thinking the Giants were going to sign him for a week. Nothing will make that pain go away, at least not anytime soon, but the SF Giants proceeded with their offseason regardless, striking deals with outfielder Michael Conforto and reliever Taylor Rogers on Friday. Both deals are pending physicals.
Conforto was quietly a very good player from 2017 to 2020, before a down 2021 and season-ending shoulder surgery in April 2022. He's a high on-base and power corner outfielder who has generally been a net positive defensively in the corners. He has some platoon splits, but is decent against lefties and a monster against righties. He's unlikely to fall into a strict platoon, if for no other reason than the fact that he probably wouldn't have signed here if he was told he'd be platooned. Also, tough day for those who said the Giants would never be able to sign another Scott Boras client after what happened with Correa.
Taylor Rogers is Tyler's twin brother. They look almost identical, but they couldn't be more different on the diamond. Taylor is a lefty and Tyler is a righty. Taylor throws hard and strikes people out; Tyler is a soft-tosser who relies on weak contact. The contract is for three years and $33 million. Conforto's deal is for two years and $36 million, and it includes an opt-out after the first year.
