Submit ReviewWell, the San Francisco Giants' weekend certainly wasn't boring. On Friday the Giants were shut down by Marcus Stroman. On Saturday, they came ever so close to being no-hit by soft-tosser Kyle Hendricks. And then on Sunday, when the Giants needed a win pretty badly, they pummeled the Cubs 13-3 to salvage an otherwise disappointing series. The SF Giants are one game over .500 and their position in the West and Wild Card standings is explored in detail.
Also of note, the SF Giants optioned catcher Joey Bart to Triple-A over the weekend. It was the latest setback in the career of Bart in San Francsico, as Patrick Bailey and Blake Sabol appear to have surpassed him on the depth chart. This is the last year in which the Giants can option Bart, so it's very possible that this is his last season in orange and black—if he even makes it through the whole season. Today the Giants announced that Keaton Winn was called up and Tristan Beck was optioned. Winn is a very intriguing starting pitcher who features a good fastball-splitter combo.
Luis Matos continues to do ridiculous things for the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento. He hit three homers in his last two games, collecting three hits in each game. Do the SF Giants need to make room for Matos on the major league roster right now? What would that look like? It appears that the Giants simply don't have room on their roster for Matos right now, even though he is absolutely forcing the issue. He may have to wait until an injury creates a spot, or the Giants may at some point decide to make a trade that opens up a spot for the 21-year-old.
