The San Francisco Giants have a 4.71 ERA and 4.73 FIP. Much has been made of their offense's inconsistency and tendency to strike out, but overall the Giants have graded out as a significantly above-average offensive team. The run prevention, however, has not been there. The Giants allowed 10 runs in their loss to the Dodgers last night.

The good news is that their biggest problem is simply that they've allowed too many homers, seemingly at an unsustainably high level. The SF Giants' team K% and BB% as a pitching staff is strong, but they're last in the majors in HR/FB ratio, which is something that does not stabilize quickly. The Giants' xFIP, which predicts ERA based on normal BABIP and HR/FB, is among the best in MLB, which is encouraging.

Darin Ruf is back with the Giants, and he hammered a double off the left-center field wall in his first at-bat, and it came against Clayton Kershaw. The Giants lost Bryce Johnson to a concussion after he slammed into the center field wall making a heroic catch last night. Michael Conforto also exited the game with calf tightness.
