The San Francisco Giants added another key prospect from the 2018 Christian Yelich trade. Lewis Brinson, the centerpiece of that deal, was acquired by the Giants yesterday in a trade with the Houston Astros. Brinson was immediately added to the 40-man roster and called up to the major leagues. Now that he's on the 40-man, he is under club control for three seasons via arbitration. If he has a good September and/or Spring Training, he could certainly be on the 2023 team. In other words, Brinson is auditioning for the Giants from here on out.

What Giants on expiring deals will be back next year? Farhan Zaidi said on KNBR yesterday that there's interest in bringing back Joc Pederson. If Pederson is retained by the Giants, that would seemingly have a ripple effect in that it could eliminate another platoon. The Giants clearly need more everyday players, and Joc Pederson is a strict platoon player. Wilmer Flores is another Giants player who could/should be brought back, and the most important player might be Carlos Rodón.

Who's the most surprising current Giants player who might not be back next year? The answer is probably Mike Yastrzemski or LaMonte Wade Jr. It hasn't been a good year for either Giants lefty, and Wade in particular is probably running out of chances. Both are platoon players, and especially if Joc Pederson is re-signed it might mean at least one of those two will not be on the 2023 roster.

Honest assessments of Giants manager Gabe Kapler and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi are also discussed on today's show.
