It's unfortunate that it took an injury, but the San Francisco Giants' young, electric prospect Luis Matos is very likely to make his MLB debut on Wednesday after Mitch Haniger sustained a right forearm fracture after being hit by a pitch in a Giants win. Haniger will surely need weeks, if not months, to heal, and that swings the door wide open for Matos, who's been on an unbelievable tear in Triple-A.

Matos is just 21 years old—the youngest player in Triple-A—and assuming he makes his debut, he will be MLB's second-youngest position player. Matos was regarded by prospect evaluators as a top prospect a couple of years ago, but injuries and poor performance took some shine off last year. But the SF Giants farmhand has come back with a vengeance in 2023, tearing it up in Double-A and doing the same in Triple-A at such a young age.

Now Matos is likely to join Patrick Bailey, Casey Schmitt, Keaton Winn (who earned a save in his MLB debut tonight), Ryan Walker, and Blake Sabol among Giants youngsters to debut this season. It's an exciting time to be a Giants fan again, particularly with several of these young players performing well. And we haven't even seen Matos or potential star pitcher Kyle Harrison yet. Suddenly, things are exciting and the SF Giants' future is looking bright.

Oh by the way, the Giants blew out the Cardinals, improved to three games over .500, and have sole possession of the NL's final wild card spot.
