By this time in his career, David Cronenberg was becoming well-known in his native Canada. He’d already made four commercial films – each more successful than the last, with the exception of the non-horror film FAST COMPANY – but most of that success came in Canada and Europe. Although all of his films had been released in the US, none of them had made a huge impact here.

That would all change with his next film, the one that would make him a mainstream director not only in the Canadian market but in the US as well. The film – infamously known as “the movie with the exploding head” – is, of course, 1981’s SCANNERS.
