New research reveals 87,000 Australians have experienced child sexual abuse in religious organisations at the hands of leaders or adults. 

Although the prevalence of such abuse has declined, the research found boys experienced more sexual abuse, almost 72 per cent of the abuse occurred in Catholic organisations and the majority of perpetrators were men.
