Pretty much everyone in Michigan has some kind of story about the Great Lakes—whether it’s summer swims, or ice fishing, or enjoying a sunrise or sunset along the shore. Unfortunately, there are some major threats to the health of the state’s most beloved natural resource. The cover story in the December issue of National Geographic takes a deep dive into some of them. In the magazine you’ll find dramatic photos of massive algal blooms and surging floodwaters, as well as up-close portraits of invasive species that are disrupting the local ecosystems. We talked to the two journalists behind the piece. GUESTS: Tim Folger, National Geographic contributing writer and contributing editor at Discover Magazine Keith Ladzinski, filmmaker and photographer at National Geographic Want to support the podcast?
