So our expectations were super high. Maybe that’s ultimately the problem. Maybe not though. We pay Rocketman a whole bunch of credit that its due. It’s central performance from Egerton and the production values are incredible. But boy, do we have some things to say about the rest of it.
We told you all from Day 1. We’d be honest with you. Though we may have wanted to love this movie, we didn’t, and we explain why in this initial reactions version of an Oscars Sprint Profile. Perhaps further viewings will deepen our appreciation of the film. Perhaps not. But one thing is for sure, we did not come down favorably on much with this movie after our first look.
It’s our 7th Oscar Sprint Profile on the 2019 film year. We’ve also covered Captain Marvel, Fighting With My Family, Apollo 11, Us, and Avengers: Endgame. The month of June looks to be much more Oscar-y going forward as well. We have at least two more coming with Danny Boyle’s Beatles centric Yesterday and of course, Toy Story 4, which we’re building towards with an entire Pixar Re-Watch series. We’re 13 episodes deep into that, and we’ll finish before the big premiere of the fourth Toy Story at the end of the month. We’re also set to debut our Quentin Tarantino Re-Watch series soon, and as with Pixar, we’ll have a theme song and a set of unique segments to help with our study.
