In this episode, the Retro Movie Geek crew is geeking out over In The Heat Of The Night (1967) and realism superb acting police stories racism and much, much more! Synopsis: On the surface In The Heat Of The Night is a murder mystery that begins one summer evening in the deep South… But the real story centers on the relationship between two men: a black cop from Philadelphia named Virgil Tubbs (Sidney Poitier) and Bill Gillespie (Rod Steiger), the redneck chief of police of Sparta, Mississippi. Tibbs is passing through Sparta when he is accused of killing one of the town’s most prominent citizens. After he supports his innocence, Virgil is coerced by Gillespie into helping solve the crime. Gillespie’s change towards the black officer poignantly question age-old prejudices in this action-packed, milestone film. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: LISTENER FEEDBACK: Leave us your voicemail feedback at (484) 577-3876.
